High Current and High Brightness Electron Sources
The development of high current, high brightness electron guns is critically important for free-electron laser and energy recovery linear-accelerator light source facilities. In this paper, we will review the technical requirements of such projects and the status of on-going research throughout the community including results of emittance measurements and high current beam performance.
متن کاملA High Current, High Gradient, Laser Excited, Pulsed Electron Gun
This paper describes a pulsed electron gun that can be used as an FEL, as an injector for electron linear accelerators or for rf power generation. It comprises a 1 to 5 MeV, 1 to 2 ns pulsed power supply feeding a single diode, photoexcited acceleration gap. Beam quality of a ~ 1nC charge in ~ 1 GV/m field was studied. Computations of the beam parameters as a function of electrode configuration...
متن کاملGd3+-Gd3+ distances exceeding 3 nm determined by very high frequency continuous wave electron paramagnetic resonance.
Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy in combination with site-directed spin labeling is a very powerful tool for elucidating the structure and organization of biomolecules. Gd3+ complexes have recently emerged as a new class of spin labels for distance determination by pulsed EPR spectroscopy at Q- and W-band. We present CW EPR measurements at 240 GHz (8.6 Tesla) on a series of Gd-ruler...

A HIGH GRADIENT 17 GHz RF GUN FOR THE PRODUCTION OF HIGH BRIGHTNESS ELECTRON BEAMS
We report on the design and construction of a new, tuneable, 1.5 cell 17 GHz RF gun and improved beamline. Emittance compensation in the new beamline is achieved with a 6.5 cm long, 0.5 T solenoid placed immediately after the RF Gun. Simulations predict a normalized rms emittance of 0.5 πmm-mrad for a 1 ps, 0.1 nC, 2.4 MeV beam. Emittance measurement diagnostic slits have also been designed and...
